| National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) |
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has officially commenced a comprehensive review of the Kindergarten to Primary Six curriculum, marking a significant step toward strengthening foundational education in Ghana.
Originally introduced in the 2019/2020 academic year, the current curriculum has reached a critical stage for revision in accordance with national education policy frameworks and emerging government priorities aimed at improving learning outcomes across the country.
As part of the review process, a joint meeting involving the Curriculum Steering Committee and the Technical Working Group was convened on 12th March 2026 at the Ministry of Education in Accra. The meeting served as a platform to receive and deliberate on findings from a NaCCA research team that conducted an extensive evaluation of the existing curriculum.
This engagement forms part of a broader series of consultative sessions being organized by the Steering Committee to assess progress, gather expert input, and ensure transparency in the review process. Stakeholders across the education sector are expected to contribute insights that will shape the direction of the revised curriculum.
The ongoing review seeks to ensure that Ghana’s basic education curriculum remains dynamic, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving needs of learners in a rapidly changing global landscape. Central to this effort is a renewed emphasis on embedding Ghanaian cultural values, traditions, and identity within the curriculum, while also strengthening core competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem solving.
Ultimately, the initiative reflects NaCCA’s commitment to delivering a modern, relevant, and culturally grounded education system that equips Ghanaian learners with the skills and knowledge required for national development and global competitiveness.
